ONR Fellowship Cancelled. Affirmative Action Ending?
Sunday, 06 December 2009 21:37

A user sent me this notification the other day:

The Office of Naval Research Fellowship has been discontinued. I received the notification below:

"On November 4, 2008, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit issued an opinion in Rothe Development Corporation v. Department of Defense, No. 2008-1017, 2008 WL 4779586, holding that the race-conscious remedial measures at 10 U.S.C. § 2323 (setting a goal to award at least 5% of annual contracting dollars to small disadvantaged businesses and authorizing certain set-asides for SDBs) were unconstitutional, violating the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution guaranteeing equal protection to all citizens under the law.
As a result of this court ruling, ONR has been forced to terminate the FEFF Program and we can no longer accept applications."

You can see the court ruling here: http://www.cafc.uscourts.gov/opinions/08-1017.pdf

How ironic.  On the day that Barack Obama takes office, funding begins getting cut from small disadvantaged  businesses, which apparently includeds minority organizations and programs.  So what is it, now that we have a black president, minorities don't need any more special support?   I bet we will see more and more minority organizations lose funding in the coming future.  Is affirmative action coming to an end?  It begins...

:sigh: Wow...so we are all equal now. Tell that to our Fair Housing Department which still gets complaints of blatant racial discrimination.
