Home About Us

My name is Byron and I am the founder, creator, and owner of MinorityGradStudent.com. I am originally from Prince George's County, MD. I did my graduate school studies at Georgia Tech, completing dual MS in Mechanical Engineering (thesis published) and MBA degrees. I also received my BS in Electrical Engineering from Hampton University as a Presidential Scholar and Merit Scholar, graduating with Departmental and Cum Laude honors. I am currenly employed as an engineer full-time in the industry.

The original goal of starting this site was to encourage more people from minority ethnic backgrounds (as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau) to pursue graduate degrees, by providing a comprehensive searchable database of grad school funding sources. I was a UNCFSP NASA Harriett Jenkins Fellow during my graduate studies at Georgia Tech. With this fellowship and additional other small monetary awards, I was able to fully fund my graduate studies and earn a substantial living stipend while in graduate school. It is possible to have your tuition/fees paid for, earn a decent pay, and balance social and family life while earning your graduate degree! Use this site to search for grad school awards and apply!

Addtional resources on this site include career and general advice for soon-to-be college grads, college grads and grad students, and those early in their career.  There are many things that can play a factor in if you will get that job or internship that you crave, such as your appearance, how you present yourself at a career fair, your resume, networking, relationship with your professors and references, etc.

Furthering your education beyond the baccalaureate degree can make one more marketable and help to further advance your career.  We have a Forum and a Facebook Fan Page where our users can connect and chat about various topics including the aforementioned.  MinorityGradStudent.com is not responsible for the content posted by our users in the forum or on any of our social networking pages.
